IBC – Suriname Edition aims to attract investors to the region
The International Business Conference (IBC) – Suriname Edition, set to be held in February 2025 in Suriname, aims to open doors to the region for international investors, with a special focus on Suriname. Organized by the Suriname-Guyana Chamber of Commerce (SGCC), the event's preparations were launched on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at the Suriname Trade & Investment Agency (SITA) headquarters.
Rahul Lildhar, CEO of SGCC, emphasized the need for international investors to drive the growth of both countries and their business sectors. He stressed the importance of Suriname and Guyana investing in their business sectors and encouraged Surinamese and Guyanese companies to join forces. According to Lildhar, the IBC – Suriname Edition is uniquely positioned to provide networking opportunities for businesses to foster their growth. SGCC members enjoy added benefits from their partnership with the organization.
SITA CEO, Amar Alakhramsing, highlighted the need for Surinamese entrepreneurs to recognize the current international interest in Guyana due to the influx of capital there. “Major companies are visiting Guyana to explore investment opportunities, with a significant impact from the private sector. This is why we chose this conference. Through this event, we will uncover areas for improvement,” Alakhramsing stated.
As part of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Business, and International Cooperation (BIBIS), SITA plays a strategic role in linking the private sector with the government. SITA screens and assesses positive investments, particularly in the areas of investment and export. Alakhramsing encouraged Surinamese businesses to seize this opportunity to explore and experience how international business is conducted. He believes that the IBC – Suriname Edition will serve as an eye-opener for promoting Suriname as an investment destination.
