Interviewed and quoted1 by the Wall Street Journal for an uncanny ability to read and interpret Oil and Gas trend fundamentals, Dr. Amir Azar did not start his career as a subject-matter expert in the field. He started with his head in the clouds. Or more accurately, in Space.

Dr. Azar earned his engineering Ph.D. in Satellite data analytics, forecasting large-scale environmental patterns using Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). He also completed his master's degree in International Finance which paved the way for him to join the Energy Banking Sector in New York.

In this Sector, Dr. Azar developed an expertise in the field of energy finance, serving as Vice-President and Assistant VP for SMBC, TD, KPMG, as well as Fellow at the Columbia University Center for Global Energy Policies (CGEP). At Columbia, he published what is now considered a ground-breaking, peer-reviewed paper on the Shale Oil Revolution, titled “Reserve Base Lending and the Outlook for Shale Oil and Gas Finance2.” This paper was quickly noticed by the mainstream media and adopted by industry experts.

It was during the COVID-related collapse of global oil prices that Dr. Azar’s metaphorical “pieces” came together. Dr. Azar developed a novel approach for commodities trading using Machine Learning. Combining his insight in the Oil and Gas Industry and his expertise in data analytics, he created algorithms which could reliably and successfully identify signals for systemic trading.
